If you haven't been on an electric skateboard before, most of these boards come with an eco or a beginner mode, which down tune is the performance making the acceleration and braking curves a lot smoother and limiting the top speed.
But ultimately the people that are going and looking for the fastest electric skateboard will be experienced skateboarders in their own right and more than capable of handling quick boards.
But let's have a closer look at some of the best of the fastest, so you can make an even better-informed purchase.
NGV is an abbreviation for Nextboard's patented electric drive technology, known as NGV Electric Drive. It is a high-performance, high-torque direct drive motor that is compact and lightweight, allowing it to fit into small spaces and provide high power output.
The NGV Nextboard skateboard can reach speeds of up to 68 mph with its 12S battery. It also has four 2000watt scorpion motors inside each wheel powered by Tattu 6s batteries which take 1.5 hours to charge and provide a range of up to 6 to 9 miles.
Additionally, the deck measures just 800 grams making it one of the lightest longboards available on the market today while still providing excellent durability due to its high grade custom moulded carbon fibre construction.
As you can see with the specs above, the performance is just insane. First of all let's cover the actual speed. The top speed of 50mph is available to the four-wheel-drive all-terrain version. When you start changing the wheel size and the amount of motors it does have an impact on the overall speed of the board. So these are the variance you can expect:
2WD street: 40 mph
2WD AT: 41 mph
4WD Street: 49 mph
4WD AT: 50 mph
To achieve the top speed that this board offers there are some compromises. One of them being the portability and ease of using this board. Due to the size and weight it really is intended for a single use journey, or if you're heading out for a quick whip around with some friends.
The Bioboards Plutonium is actually incredibly quiet considering the power and speed it has. It's much quieter than some of the boards like the Exway X1 Pro Riot.

In fact the mini electric skateboard Meepo make is one of the fastest small production electric skateboards on the market. So it shouldn't become too much of a surprise that the feature heavily in the fastest electric skateboards list.
The main difference being with the Meepo AWD Pro compared to Bioboards Plutonium board is that it's a regular-sized electric longboard, enabling easy transportation if you're in an environment where you can't ride it. In fact, as you can see from the picture, there are two handles on each side of the board to aid with portability. Although there are handles, if you are trying to carry it for a long time, your hand will ache, and fatigue will set in.
The board itself is made of 9 layers in total. Seven of them being maple and two layers or bamboo. Considering the batteries and ESC's take up a large chunk of the underside of the board it does give you quite a bit of flex. You might have noticed I said batteries and ESC's and that's because there are two separate batteries and two separate ACs which both power the 4 hub motors.
The motors is where we see some big updates compared to the older Meepo AWD model. The older model having 4×300 W motors. Whereas this Pro version comes in with 4x500w motors.

For a long time Exway were rumoured to be releasing an update to their All-terrain line up, and when they announced the Atlas, I was pleased the wait was worth it.
It's the perfect all-round performing board and can be used for so many occasions. It can become difficult when using it around towns or cities. As it is heavy and cumbersome to manoeuvre around with especially if you're needing to use public transport for a section of your commute.
The range of a fast electric skateboard is the maximum distance it can travel before the battery runs out.
The range will vary depending on the speed of the board, as going faster drains the battery faster. In general, most boards can achieve a range of 10 miles (16 kilometers) at top speed, but this number can be higher for high-end models with bigger batteries. Additionally, terrain and wheel size can also affect max-speed and range capabilities of an electric skateboard.
Can you make an electric skateboard faster?
The best and easiest way of making your electric skateboard faster is to change the wheel size. If you have a belt-driven board, then it's straightforward to change the wheels as it'll use 4 regular longboard wheels.
Increasing the wheel size, means your board will cover more ground on each revolution of the wheel. Beware as doing this will change the acceleration speed and overall range of your electric skateboard.

The boosted stealth is the fastest electric skateboard boosted made coming in at 24 mph. Boosted were never at the top of the list or close to when it comes to the top-end speed of the board. They would mainly focus on usability and ride rather than out and out speed. Also the range was never particularly good, an increasing in the overall speed of the board would impact the range as well.
As you can see there is a whole host of fast electric skateboards. Some of them I would consider out right terrifying to be travelling at the top speed. As the ideal maximum speed I would say you would need from electric skateboard is around 29 to 31 mph.
Manufacturers like Meepo, Exway & Backfire are well established within the electric skateboarding community and has been making boards for many years now. Personally myself I would opt for one of those boards. Although they are not the out and out fastest electric skateboard on the market, you will be dealing with companies that are well established and easy to contact.
