Backfire G2S Review

February 15, 2019

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Here is my Backfire G2S Review, the very latest street electric longboard from Backfire Boards.
The name might indicate this is just an incremental change from the Backfire G2, but all the little changes that have been made Backfire have made a far more advanced Electric Skateboard[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type="vc_default" content_placement="middle" css=".vc_custom_1546000690851{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-right-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-left-width: 2px !important;padding-top: 50px !important;padding-right: 50px !important;padding-bottom: 50px !important;padding-left: 50px !important;border-left-color: #e83840 !important;border-left-style: solid !important;border-right-color: #e83840 !important;border-right-style: solid !important;border-top-color: #e83840 !important;border-top-style: solid !important;border-bottom-color: #e83840 !important;border-bottom-style: solid !important;}"][vc_column width="1/2"][ultimate_heading main_heading="Highlight Features" heading_tag="p" main_heading_color="#3b3f4a" main_heading_font_size="desktop:25px;tablet:18px;tablet_portrait:16px;" main_heading_style="font-weight:bold;" main_heading_margin="margin-bottom:25px;"][/ultimate_heading][ultimate_icon_list icon_size="20" icon_margin="0"][ultimate_icon_list_item icon="Defaults-dashboard tachometer" icon_color="#e83840"]Top Speed: 23.5mph or 38kph[/ultimate_icon_list_item][ultimate_icon_list_item icon="Defaults-plug" icon_color="#e83840"]Range: 12miles or 20km[/ultimate_icon_list_item][ultimate_icon_list_item icon="Defaults-bolt flash" icon_color="#e83840"]Power: 2 x 300w Hub Motors[/ultimate_icon_list_item][ultimate_icon_list_item icon="Defaults-user" icon_color="#e83840"]Warranty : 6 Months[/ultimate_icon_list_item][ultimate_icon_list_item icon="Defaults-globe" icon_color="#e83840"]Shipping : Free World Wide[/ultimate_icon_list_item][/ultimate_icon_list][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="313" img_size="large" alignment="center"][vc_btn title="Check On Amazon" style="flat" color="danger" align="center" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Famzn.to%2F2IJkjQd||target:%20_blank|"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]When the Backfire Galaxy G2 was released, it coincided with the V1 from Meepo. Although specification wise, the Galaxy G2 was the superior board. When it came down to performance, there wasn’t enough between the two to warrant paying the extra amount for the Backfire Galaxy G2.
The Backfire Galaxy G2S will address this with a much-improved performance compared to the G2.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Performance

The Ride

Backfire have done a fantastic job with the G2S offering a remarkably smooth ride, not too dissimilar to the Boosted Stealth.
Considering the Boosted Stealth is double the price of the Galaxy G2S it goes to show what a good job Backfire have done with the G2S.
It has a smooth acceleration curve, which is even more noticeable with the 96mm wheels (Which come free with the board).
One factor which sets the G2S apart from the other Electric Skateboards around $600 is the trucks. As standard, the Galaxy G2S comes with Caliber 2 50-degree trucks. It’s a massive improvement over the trucks which will ship with the other Chinse made Electric Longboards.
g2s-truck-caliberHaving the Caliber trucks have made a considerable difference to the riding capabilities of this board. It’s far more stable at higher speeds and carves like an absolute dream. You can quickly trust this board which is always reassuring from the owners perspective.
One thing that goes unnoticed with this is board is the low center of gravity. The Galaxy G2S sits a lot lower to the ground than most other boards. With the 80mm wheels, the total height of the board is only 110mm.
A downside to having an electric skateboard which sits very low is going over rocks and stones. I did notice the rear truck was catching objects a lot more than usual.
I never found this to be a big problem, just something to keep an eye on.
But I would ways take the lower center of gravity and smoother ride every time.

Backfire G2S Top Speed

Backfire say the G2S board is capable of 23.5mph or 38kph.
I found In real-world environments you may get a little less than that. But I do weigh 82kg which is more than the rider used on their test (75kg). The speed difference wouldn’t be anything you would notice.
You get 2-speed modes, eco, and sports. With the eco speed mode, I found will push you to a top speed of 13 mph. Fast enough of newbies.

Range

The Galaxy G2S comes with the option of 2 battery sizes.
5.0 Ah - will give you a 12Miles/20Km Sports Mode riding range, 15.5Miles/25Km Eco Mode riding range
6.0Ah (Samsung 30Q) - With this battery option you can expect 15Miles/25Km Sports Mode riding range.
At the time I write this article the larger Samsung battery is only $50 more. If you can stretch a little further, then I think the bigger battery will be a good investment. Those extra few miles will make a world of difference.
The life expectancy of the battery will also be improved if you go for the Samsung option.

Battery

Backfire-g2s-battery
The battery also comes with an advanced management system.
What this means is when the battery is fully charged, you can still apply the brakes hard at high speeds, and there'll be no reverse current being sent back from the motors.
Also due to the advanced management system battery light once you start getting 40% and under so much less on the g2s compared to other boards I've ridden.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Design

The Galaxy grip tape is by far and way the most identifiable grip tape which comes as standard on any Electric Skateboard.
It will turn heads the second anyone notices it.
For those that are going for the Stealth factor, it does come in a Black and Gold variant, which is just as pleasing to look at.
The black grip tape will age better than the galaxy version. As you can imagine over time, the Galaxy version will fade more rapidly compared to the black. But it’s not massive deal swapping the grip tape over.
The housing for the battery and ESC is very similar to the Boosted Boards. So identical you could get the two boards mixup.
Not only from the side do the two boards look similar, from above you the deck shape tapers in at the center. The G2S curves are slightly more aggressive & pronounced. I prefer this look as to me it's more reminiscent of something like a fighter jet wing.
You can tell Backfire have thought a lot about the design process and ways of making the best Electric Skateboard possible.
One design area a lot of manufactures overlook is the 50:50 weight distraction.
What this means is both the front and back half of the G2S weigh the same. You gain a lot of performance advantages.
Also, it's far easier to carry the board for extended periods if the board has equal weight distribution between the front and the back. I've used many electric skateboards, and most of them have a heavier front end where the battery sits. It does get annoying carrying the board and holding it in the middle of the deck as it's continually tipping forward from the Uneven balance.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Backfire G2S vs Wowgo 2S

One of the main rivals of the backfire G2S will have to be the Wowgo 2S. Both electric skateboards are fairly different even though their model name is almost the same.

What Comes In The Box

You get a surprising amount of extras that come in the box. The first thing you might notice is the spare wheels. The 80mm wheels are installed on the board as default, and the 96 mm wheels for both the front and the Hub Motors are spares in the box.

Who are Backfire?

Some of you reading this may never have heard of backfire until this point. If that's the case, it may surprise you when I say Backfire have been making skateboards for over ten years now.
The founder of the company also has more than 16 years of experience skateboarding. Which I think is always a good thing to look for when spending your hard earned money.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Conclusion Of The Backfire G2S Review

The G2 range that Backfire boards have been producing have pushed back the boundaries regarding what is possible when designing and making a “budget” electric skateboard.
Parts that Backfire have you used on the G2S Wouldn't look out of place on a board that was twice the cost.
For example, the Caliber 2 front trucks, are a quality set. You can immediately feel the difference when you're carving and Cruising along at speed.
Some people may grumble with the range if you’re riding flat out most of the time. But if you think about it, on the Boosted Stealth you only get around 6-7 miles of flat out riding, and that costs around double the price.
There is a great scrap going on between Backfire and Meepo. If you take a look at the new Electric Skateboard by Meepo, the G2T and NLS are very similar in specs and price. When you have companies like Meepo, Backfire fighting over the $500-600 range. You end up getting very impressive electric skateboards for an unbelievable price.
Backfire have also recently branched out and started making all terrain (off-road) Electric Skateboards. The Ranger X1 if you wish to check it out.
It’s never been a better time to invest and get an electric skateboard, and the Backfire G2S is all around one of the very bests.
For me, there are three pillars I look for when buying an electric skateboard.
Price
Parts
Performance
First is price, when I look at the Backfire G2S, it’s a very competitive price. As I’ve mentioned above.
Parts - How easy is it to get replacement parts or swap for 3rd party components & the Backfire has good support, and easy to get hold of replacement parts. In fact, they send you a lot of replacement parts in the box.
Performance - The Backfire G2S has excellent performance as I’ve mentioned above.
That brings us to the end of this Backfire G2S review. If you have anything, you wish to add, leave it in the comment section below.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
