Backfire Ranger X2 Review

August 10, 2019

Here is my BackFire Ranger X2 Review. The new all-teratin electric skateboard released by Backfire Boards.

Backfire have been releasing top quality electric skateboards for many years now. they've successfully bridged that gap between the budget boards and the high-end boards like Boosted & Evolve, despite being a fraction of the cost.
Now we have the 2nd AT board from Backfire, improving on the X1 which many considered the best All-terrain board powered by hub motors.
But let's get into the details.

Ranger X2 vs Ranger X1

Backfire Ranger X2

Range

Expected range hasn't changed compared to the X1. The range wasn't an area where the older board was lacking in anyway in my opinion.
But there are some changes with the power system and battery on the Ranger X2.

On the X2 the battery is a 12S 50.4V electronic system, 12S battery.
The battery runs at a much lower temperature, and the energy saved can be used to generate more power.
Range of the Ranger X2 is: 16-21 miles.

Top Speed

The Top Speed of the Backfire Ranger X2 is: 22mph
Its a comfortable speed to manage on the flat, but can get tricky on the offroad trails.
Because of the larger size of the wheels, the acceleration isn't as quick as other electric skateboards with 80-100mm wheels used on the road.

Power

The Power of the Backfire Ranger X2 is: 2 x 1200w Hub Motors.
You can find the hub motors within the rear wheels. It's one of the most significant upgrades to come to the Ranger X2 as you now get 2 x 1200w of power.
Having that amount of power will be no problem, going up steep hills on wet grass or muddy conditions.
Reassuring knowing you have that amount of power to hand when you need it.

Deck

We all know the Deck of any skateboard is one of the essential parts. It becomes even more important when you're riding on an all-terrain bored.
With a very aggressive concave shape you feel locked in while are you riding the Ranger X2. Very important considering the varying types of terrain you'll be riding across. The larger bumps you may encounter can slightly lift you from the board and finding your position quick will aid with balance.
The deck is also extremely flexible, reducing the vibrations to your feet legs reducing fatigue on longer rides.

Remote

Shipping with the new R2 wireless remote it also has an OLED display. Giving You easy to read information about the boards and the current ride.
Very useful to be able to quickly look down and get detailed information about battery life etc. Is even more important why you're riding off-road, so you don't have to waste time looking at the remote.

Trucks

With double Kingpin trucks, you can experience great carving, And even with the bigger wheels, there is a turning radius of about 2 meters.
I think a few people were hoping the Ranger X2 would come with suspension rather than the double kingpin trucks, making it undoubtedly the best all-terrain hub driven electric skateboard on the market today.
But if that was the case, There is a goods chance the price will be pushed up outside of what a lot of people could afford.

Wheels

The tires are 6.5" in size and now are made from a thickening honeycomb structure meaning they are airless. You dont need to worry about getting a puncture while out on a ride.

Design

Ranger X2

The design of the Ranger X2 has been crafted to suit the conditions its meant to be ridden in. All the major components are water-resistant & dustproof, including the hub motors.
ESC & battery enclosures are sealed to allowing to take your board out in conditions making it a true all-terrain electric  skateboard.
Note that it's not entirely waterproof, but water-resistant. If you throw it in a lake, it's going to break. But you'll be okay with going through puddles or getting caught in downpours.
The design hasn't changed much from X1 a great deal, but it's more the internals and remote which have seen a big upgrade making the over experience far greater than ever before.

Weight

A big talking point has been the weight of the Backfire X2 coming in at only 10.8kg. Taking the overall weight of the board down 4kg from the previous model. That's a huge amount of weight to shit considering the number of items they also added for this model.
Now it's a much more manageable weight to carry around if you do find yourself in the situations where you can't ride it.

Price

Currectly the Backfire Ranger X2 is on sale for $1,199

What's In The Box

backfire Ranger X2 In The Box

Arrives Fully assembled all you need to do check all the moving parts, in case any of them have come loose in transit. The main one will be the double kingpin trucks. I also opt for a slightly tighter back truck compared to the front. It allows me to keep stable at higher speeds with maintaining good carving ability.
In terms of items, you get the main parts like the remote, charger & t-tool.
A pleasant surprise is the addition of a light which you can attach to the front from the board by the front truck.

Conclusion Of The Backfire Ranger X2 Review

That concludes my backfire ranger X2 review and as I write this review its the best all-terrain electric skateboard you can buy.
With the range and power, you now have at your disposal. It ticks a lot of boxes which many people would look for with an off-road electric skateboard.
With the small improvements backfire have made they all add up to a significant overall difference to the riding experience.
The delivery times are fast, as Backfire have a few warehouses around the globe, one of them being in California, so if you're ordering from the US then you can expect delivery times of 3-4 days.
