Here is the Meepo NLS Review, the latest Electric Skateboard from Meepo in their long line of budget electric skateboards. With an impressive top speed of 25mph & 14 miles range, it gives electric skateboards twice the price of a run for their money.
I've tried to cover all the main points people will want to know when It comes to buying this Electric Skateboard.
The brand new electric skateboard made by Meepo. Is by far the most advanced bored Meepo has made to date. The Meepo NLS has a new composite deck, new remote design, trucks, swappable batteries.
The Meepo NLS deck is 38” in length which is a standard longboard size for electric skateboards. Most of the boards from China will use this size template.
The deck, made from a premium fiberglass bamboo deck which is specifically designed for electric skateboarding. The NLS gives a smoother ride as the composite material allows more flex and reduces vibrations through your legs And allows carving at much higher speeds.
Looking at this board from the side you get quite a distinguishable zebra look. This is one of the 8 mm bamboo zebra I-beam layer.
Compared to the other boards Meepo has made up until now the deck for the NLS is far more flexible.
On the underside of the board, it has a two-tone greyscale design which is reminiscent of the boosted stealth electric skateboard which was released Midway through 2017.
Some people may think it's too similar, but you can undoubtedly see Meepo have taken inspiration from that design and incorporated it into the NLS. For me I'm not too fussed, I think it looks great.
On the top side of the deck, you find the usual split abrasive deck tape with the Meepo logo running down the right side. The logo is a lot smaller than the logo you would see on the older Meepo Boards like the V1. A Good move in my books as the logo on the older boards were slightly overpowering.
Meepo have also designed a brand new remote control. One feature which will be a talking point for most people is the introduction of a flashlight on the remote itself.
I can see the flashlight being one of those things you’ll either use a lot or not at all. Either way for me it’s nice knowing it’s there, means you don't need to carry around an extra flashlight if you are venturing out in low light conditions.
But some of you might be asking “Won't the flashlight just kill the battery?”. Meepo Have thought of this, by giving it a 18650 high capacity battery the remote itself can be used for ten weeks on a single charge.
If you’re going to be using the flashlight a lot, there is still enough juice to keep that going for a total of 2 hours.
The design of the remote has had a change to house the flashlight and bigger battery. I think it’s slightly too big, as I prefer a smaller remote for the stealth factor you get. With this NR remote, people will undoubtedly see you’re holding something.
As you can see from the picture, you get a wheel for accelerating and breaking.
With three buttons, one to power the remote on or off, turning the flashlight on or off and at the bottom of the three you’ll find the button or changing direction.
I prefer having a physical switch on my remote for changing direction. I can see which direction the board is set to just by having a glance at the remote before setting off.
Another new addition to this NLS board compared to other versions of Meepos line up are the trucks. Now as standard you will get the Shredder 2 trucks, they give the rider stability even at high speeds.
The Bushings has also changed with new ultra big and tall variants to absorb even more vibrations and allowing more precise & controllable turning.
Meepo NLS range is: 14miles / 22.5km
The Battery department is where Meepo has made significant changes. Now giving you the option of swapping the battery out within just a few minutes.
The Meepo already offers a decent range, but with the bonus of being able to carry a spare battery, you can effectively double the range very easily.
Another cool feature which includes the battery is being able to use the power stored within the battery to charge your phone, remote or any USB device.
That’s a great option in my opinion and can see that being used frequently.
To fully charge the battery will take 2.5 hours. It’s not super quick, but not excessive.
Powered by 2 x 400 watt motors will give even the bigger electric skateboarders no issues with getting around.
Meepo claim the NLS will carry you up hills with a climb of 30%.
24mph.
Top speed of this board is very good and will put you into the league as many of the more expensive boards like Boosted and Evolve.
Remember the top speed will be impacted by the weight of the rider and terrain. But this will only be by a few mph at most.
At the higher speed, the board feels stable and you’ll quickly gain confidence to push faster until your max the thing out. With the addition of the Shredder 2 trucks & carefully adjusting how much play they have. It’ll be unlikely you’ll feel any speed wobbles.
With 4 speed modes which cater for many people. If you’re a total beginner or advanced skateboarder then you’ll have no problems with finding your desired performance mode.
Another reason for the NLS feeling a lot smoother compared to the previous boards produced by Meepo are because of the 100mm wheels.
At 100mm you will glide over more bumps and cracks in the road compared to the other boards which offer smaller wheels.
I like that Meepo has upgraded to the larger wheels, as you can certainly feel the difference between say 85mm to the 100m wheels.
The hub motors also come with removable Polyurethane. Having the ability to remove the Polyurethane when it splits or cracks, it can save you a lot of money in the long run. As previously you would have to buy a new hub motor.
Meepo has included this in their most of their electric skateboards and I really like this feature. You can just put the board on the ground, push it forward slightly and the board will turn on.
It’s not a huge deal if it wasn’t there, but it’s nice not having to bend over (Lazy I know) at the start of each ride just to turn the board on.
You get the standard regenerative breaking which you get on all Electric Boards these days.
But Meepo has gone an extra step further by allowing the rider to adjust the strength of the breaking.
Some you may be asking what's the point in that? But for heavier riders, you may wish to apply a stronger breaking pressure as it will take longer to bring you to a stop.
I was surprised at the amount you get as standard with the NLS. Like a Skateboard Stand Rack & Cables for charging your mobile phone. The cable will cover all modern mobile phones with iPhone, USB-C & micro USB cables. Also a nice little carry box, this is similar to the carry case you get with the Raptor 2.
In some pictures, you can see a noticeable bump under the deck tape where the cables sit. Can you feel this while riding?
No, you can't. It appears to look worse in pictures than real life, but its nothing anyone should be alarmed or even worry about.
What Remote Comes with the NLS?
Until January the board is shipped with the V2 remote. Customers who order Meepo NLS will get the NR remote separately (approximately 1 month later).
How Long is the warranty?
6 Months
How Long will It take to arrive?
It will take around 2 weeks once it’s dispatched to arrive. This is for people based in Europe and US.
Will you get charged import tax when the board arrives?
The only countries you’ll be charged extra for shipping are Bangladesh, Israel, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Meepo has been making affordable electric skateboards since 2017. The CEO Kieran started building electric skateboards himself and kept changing parts until he got his desired performance.
Kieran is very active on social media especially YouTube. This gained Meepo a lot of exposure very quickly.
The first board which first got the attention of the e-skate community was the Meepo v1.5 As this was the first board which sold in the US. Kieran had a Shopify store, and after 10 board with sold, he decided to start the company Meepo.
Meepo has gone from strength to strength in such a short space of time, and they've done this by making incredibly well built electric skateboards at a fraction of the cost compared to the market-leading companies.
Kieran continues to be active on social media and Reddit by hosting regular ask me anything threads in the /r/electricskateboarding subreddit.
One thing you can be sure to take away from this Meepo NLS Review is that although the price tag may say “budget”. You're certainly getting a quality Electric Skateboard.
In my opinion, the NLS is the best Electric Longboard made in China at the moment.
It will be interesting to see how long Meepo can hold this crown for. As the technology in the electric skateboarding world is moving so fast, it’s only been a matter of months, before another Chinese manufacture releases another fantastic board at an unbelievable price.
Meepo has listened to customers; you can see they have tried to implement as many suggestions as possible.
Like the super flexible deck and swappable battery which can be found on the NLS.
I feel a company which listens to customers will be around for a long time, and customers will always get the most of their hard earned money.
So if you’re in the marketplace with around $600 to spend on an electric longboard, then I think the Meepo NLS is the best board you can get at the moment.
